FAQ's
Q: What is the monetary value of the scholarship?
A: The Windber Walk By Faith scholarship, awarded to one Windber graduate per year, is for $5000. It will be dispensed over the course of the academic studies (i.e. $625 x 8 semesters=$5000)
Q: Are there any conditions to the scholarship?
A: Yes. The scholarship recipient will be expected to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 to renew the scholarship. After each semester the scholarship recipient will forward a copy of their transcript to us as the means of continuing their scholarship. The scholarship is disbursed on a per semester basis.
Q: Am I disadvantaged in the review process if I will not be attending a Christian college?
A: No, we believe that God, by his good providence and purpose, will lead, protect, and grow many of his children as they pursue further education at secular institutions. Therefore, we do not disadvantage a student in consideration for the scholarship because they will be attending a non-Christian college.
Q: When will you announce the winner of the scholarship?
A: The scholarship winner will be announced on or around June 1. The application deadline is May 1 and one month later the winner will be announced.
Q: Do you need to be a part of a certain Christian denomination to apply for the scholarship?
A: No. As part of the application process we have assembled a Statement of Faith that we believe encompasses the core & critical aspects of the Christian faith. Students from various Christian faith backgrounds are encouraged to apply, so far as you can in good conscience agree to the Statement of Faith we've provided.
Q: When is my application considered complete?
A: Submission of the six application steps or requirements shown on the main page constitutes a completed application. In order to complete the application by the deadline (May 1), you will likely need to start early on three of the requirements.
You'll want to: 1) Request your high school transcript sooner than later. 2) Talk to your recommender and send him/her the link to the letter submission page. 3) Give yourself enough time to write good essays.
About the Scholarship
The amount of the scholarship is $5000 and will be disbursed by semester (i.e. 8 semesters x $625=$5000).
"Walk By Faith" is a reference to 2nd Corinthians 5:7. In this verse and one preceding it, Paul reminds the Corinthian church that as believers in a resurrected Savior, we live in view of God's eternal plan and destiny for us, not being overly influenced and affected by what we see in this temporary world.
Hebrews 11 defines faith as being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This passage goes on to remind us that apart from faith it's impossible to please God. "Walking By Faith" is referenced in songs by Keith & Kristyn Getty, Jeremy Camp, and the band Abandon.

The Mission of the Scholarship
The Windber Walk By Faith Scholarship was established in January 2011 by a Windber alumni and their spouse to give back, bless, and sow seeds in the next generation of Windber graduates.
Their mission is to support God in the work He is doing to call a young generation from Windber to Himself...that Jesus may be made much of in their lives, and that they might be a light of God to the Windber community, the nation, and the world.
